Have you ever had one of those days where it feels like one thing goes wrong, then everything after it just keeps going wrong?
Keep reading because there is a way out, but the “how” may surprise you.
So you woke up late, didn’t have breakfast before leaving your house, spilled your coffee on the way out the door, were late to work, and a whole host of other problems followed all the way through til when you got home only to find out that your dog got into the trash and shit was everywhere.
So what gives?
This morning I broke my usual routine…
I opened my computer and started looking at some accounts and things and saw something that was very frustrating.
I allowed it to change my mood and my sacred morning time was hijacked!
My mood became pissy, I had an attitude, and things continued to NOT go my way.
I didn’t want to workout.
As I was in the middle of my workout, my BRAND NEW jump rope broke…
Brand new… like, it was the first time I was using it… wtf.
And it was a sweet birthday gift from a dear friend. DAMN!
All of this was my fault.
And when these things happen to you, it’s your fault.
When you focus on the negative, you get more negative.
But how can we turn our attitude around to be positive when we’re feeling like such shit?
As I racked my brain to figure out HOW I could change it… I thought, “what steps to I need to take right now (one thing at a time) to get myself in a better mood?
I noticed that what I was doing was simple…
And I want to share with you so you can turn a bad attitude around on a dime too!
4 steps -- B.A.R.F.
Step 1: BREATH
Go find a quiet pay place (I don’t care if it’s the bathroom) and just take 10 really intentional deep breaths.
Step 2: ACKNOWLEDGE
Grab a paper and something to write with and jot down the last five good things that happened in your life (I don’t care if it’s from five years ago).
Step 3: REDIRECT
write down the next five good things that you WANT to happen in your life. Don’t fuss about “can” they happen or “will” they happen… this step is about what you WANT to happen… and in your favor!
Get this one right…
The only guideline is that it has to be physically possible and something near-sighted that can potentially happen in the next hour, day, or week(ish). Not a 5 year goal!
Step 4: FOCUS
Keep your mind on those five things you just wrote down last. Put that note in your pocket and every time you go to the bathroom, read it.
Read it out loud to yourself.
Take a picture of it and send it to your BFF…
If they ask why, tell them Erin is helping you to have a better day.
Whether or not they all end up happening doesn’t matter as much as you focusing on them!
FOCUS.
And here’s a BONUS STEP that you won't find anywhere else: CREATE
Find a message from all of the negative that has just happened and what you can learn from it and how that benefits you.
Write a song about it.
Make a poem.
Take a video about it…
Even if nobody sees any of it.
Just let it out.
